Kakamega is in the former Western province. It covers an area of 3,033.8meter squared with a population of about 1,660,651. It receives annual rainfall of 1972mm-2000 mm with temperatures ranging from20.4 degrees centigrade and experiences Tropical high rainfall climate. The people of Kakamega County depend majorly on agriculture for their livelihoods.
