Busia County


Busia is situated at the extreme western region of the country. The County borders three other counties which include: Bungoma to the north, Kakamega to the east and Siaya to the south west. Part of Lake Victoria is in the County on the South East. It lies between latitude 0º and 0º 45 north and longitude 34º 25 east. Temperatures are generally homogeneous, the annual mean maximum temperatures range between 26 oC and 30 oC and minimum ranging between 14 oC and 22 oC with an annual rainfall that ranges between 760mm and 2000mm. The physiographic and natural conditions in the county are largely affected by the relief features in the county and surroundings Mt. Elgon forest ecosystem playing a big role. Efforts to fight climate change have been made by different institutions to rehabilitate the degraded areas caused by human activities in an aim to sustain their livelihoods.
