KEFRI Deputy Director Corporate Affairs and Quality Assurance Dr. Jackson Mulatya who represented Director KEFRI congratulated the organizers asking them to nurture the trees planted in memory of the fallen hero.

The Gatsby team led by the Executive Director Africa Justin Highstead, Country Director for Kenya Samuel Kareithi, planted Olea Capensis among other tree species.

The event saw the Kenya Forest Service represented by Kiambu County Ecosystem Conservator Mr. Paul Karanja join the two groups to commemorate the day. Each member planted a tree seed on a seedbed which will be transplanted after germination to nurture the forest in honour of a fallen hero.

Dr. Potter was instrumental in establishing Gatsby’s forestry programme team in Kenya and helping in signing a grant which aids KEFRI to implement the National Forest Health Research Strategy, National Tree Improvement Strategy and National Tree Seed Production, Certification and Distribution Strategy which are anchored in the KEFRI Strategic Plan (2018- 2022).

Luke had devoted the past ten years of his career to helping some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world. He had worked with KEFRI to establish partnership in commercial forestry programmes.
