Clean-up exercise and tree planting at DERP

The DERP-Kitui undertook the National Cleanup Kenya Campaign exercise along the JICA road towards DERP compound. This exercise which involved sweeping, slashing and collecting of debris and waste was done by all the staff

The objectives were to promote community-based environmental action for cleaner and healthier environment as enshrined in the Presidential directives and anchored on the National Government institutions; Administration Officers at the local level; who work together with the local communities and with stakeholders both within and outside Government to enhance environmental restoration, conservation and management. Various materials were used namely Personal Protective Equipments (gloves, masks, sanitizers, gumboots), wheelbarrows, hand brooms, slashers, rakes among other tools.
Coast Eco-region Research Programme Cleanup campaign The Coast Eco-region Research Programme (CERP) staff in collaboration with KWS and Friends of Arabuko Sokoke Forest marked the 2nd phase of Kenya Safi Clean-up campaign on 27th November, 2020 at Arabuko Sokoke Forest in Gede.
Speaking during the event, CERP Deputy Regional Director, Dr. Stanley Nadir stated that the aim of the exercise is to create awareness on environmentally acceptable methods of waste disposal. Dr. Nadir further stated that cleanliness should be taken as a personal initiative so as to attain and maintain a clean and healthy environment.
