Kenya Forestry Seed Centre (KFSC)

Kenya Forestry Seed Centre (KFSC) KFSC has its headquarters at Muguga, about 25 km northwest of Nairobi. KFSC has a seed stock of about 6,000 Kg of seed in its cold stores with a total storage capacity of 7,000 kg of seed. KFSC has seed testing laboratories, seed handling and storage facilities and eight forest seed collection centers in different ecological regions of the country namely:

  1. Gede (Coastal region)
  2. Kibwezi (Southern semi-arid lowlands)
  3. Nyeri (Central mountain forests)
  4. Muguga (Southern central highlands)
  5. Londiani (Western central highlands)
  6. Maseno (Lakeside region)
  7. Kakamega (Western forests
  8. Turbo (North western mountains and north western semi-arid region)

Apart from seed production and distribution, KFSC conducts national and international courses on Tree Seed Technology. KFSC has formed linkages with International Research and Donor partners, for example, World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), IPGRI, Royal Botanical Gardens - Kew and GTZ to ensure updated information and technology generation and transfer.
